About 14 years ago, when Mr Lin was a soldier, he participated in the disaster relief mission of the typhoon disaster in the Kaoshiung and Pingtung area. He saw that crops such as betel nut trees were severely damaged by landslides due to poor soil and water conservation. After leaving the army, he decided to cut down the betel nut trees of their family to plant tea trees and coffee plants. He still remembered that he got the coffee plants from the French priest, Shiguang Pan. Planted together with the tea trees he bought, but sadly all the tea trees did not survive after being eaten by the reeves and other animals. What was not expected is that all the coffee plants survived. So they tried to plant more of it, beginning with 300 crops, then more than 3200 crops till now.

Mr Lin insists on organic planting and management, and the breeds are mainly arabica and tibika. Picking coffee beans requires a great amount of manpower, not to mention peeling, cleaning, sun drying, picking beans, and roasting beans. In November 2014, the brand “Gulin” was established and listed. Their persistence all the while was to grow irreplaceable coffee with a more unique flavor. At the same time, they promote the farming concept of ecological symbiosis for a balanced bio-chain management method coexists with nature, including environment sustainability and vitality development.

Gulin coffee is planted in the coastal mountains at an altitude of 500 meters. The temperature difference between day and night in the mountains is more than 10 °c, with sufficient humidity, producing the best quality coffee beans. Either of the processes of making coffee can emerge its great taste, it can be said to be the real “Taiwanese coffee”.
