The Tomong Tribe is located on the steps of the Papaya Creek at the foot of Chilai Mountain. The place is named Tongmen because of its copper production, the population is mainly Taroko people, and is famous of a traditional craft industry famous for forging traditional Taroko knives. It is also the only indigenous tribe that knows how to forge knives, which this place was given a name “the home of Taiwan Indigenous Knife”.
Meqmeqi Ecological Corridor is a well-known scenic spot in Xiulin Township. The ancient Feicui Gu pathway winds along the Papaya River and its tributary Wuming River Valley. There are cliffs and trails along the route, as well as ancient tunnels and waterfall, which is a tourist area integrating ecology, historical sites, scenic spots and Taroko culture.
Tomong Village has rich and diverse humanistic stories, and the Taroko family stories are told by the Butulan Settlement. Bartolan has a very beautiful connotation. Some people said it means the gathering of families when the millet is harvested, some said that it is the millet that becomes lumps when chewed in the mouth, and is soft like a rice cake. Butulan is to means connecting and gathering people together. The young guides from the local tribes will promote the beauty of local nature and the life of the indigenous people to us through cultural collection and interpretation when we walk through the nature, as well as learn to respect and care for nature, and then inherit and carry forward the great local culture.
