活動時間：三個小時
從光復糖廠出發，沿著林田幹線騎乘途經馬太鞍部落、古屋最後抵達秘境景點吉利潭。

Explore The History Of Hualien City
Hualien City & Ji’an Township
The total land area of Hualien City and Ji’an Township is about 100km2.This small part of Hualien is occupied by about 190,000 people, 2/3 of the population in Hualien County, and the population density is 2000 person/km2.
What makes these places special? Aboriginal culture of Taroko, Sakizaya & Amis, and cultures that made up by the Japanese colonization, Da-chen, Taiwan Retired Soldiers, Hakka…… And varieties of organic vegetables farming, all these interesting experiential activities and cultures contributes to it’s uniqueness.

This place around the large ditch in Hualien City, formerly known as HongMao-Xi (Red Head Rivulet).It is said that the Spanish went ashore along the rivulet to look for gold, meanwhile, this rivulet flows through the downtown, and this was why people called it “ditch” (Gou Zi). During the Japanese Colonization, conflicts and disputes were often happened in the area, and a Red-light district was being set up there, and that was how it became prosperous. After blaze in 1961, people started to build houses on the rivulet, this brought it to the peak of this area around it, charming like les Champs-Élysées. Unfortunately, the train station here was removed in 1980, and crowds are slowly vanished.
Hualien Railway Cultural Park was named as Hualien Port Branch Office, served as the Command Post of the east coast’s railways. At present, it was combined with Budokan of the Police Section of the Ministry of Railways, Steam locomotive with water tower and so on, together it became a cultural park. Hualien Railway Cultural Park is so called Taiwan’s only remaining complete narrow-gauge railway base site, the view was totally different with the west coast’s, and the base site was in Hualien’s downtown. In the future, it may become the focus of development of the overall cultural industry in Hualien County.
Cultural Bureau of Hualien County spent more than a decade to fight for fund, to fulfil the restoration project of historic building in the park, and give these historical places a new life.
As the night has come, we will follow the steps of local culture & history experts, go through alleys and experience the prosperous in the past. Listen to the stories of people, and let’s travel time in Hualien with us.
